Bombers Beat Celtics in Overtime (11/14/46)

Well the Boston Celtics played their first overtime game in Celtics history tonight against the St. Louis Bombers.....and lost. The Celtics actually broke out to an 18-14 lead after the first quarter which was a miracle in itself. The Celtics added to it and led 41-26.....and immediately crapped themselves in the third quarter. The Bombers outscored the Celtics 14 to 4 with the Celtics still leading 45-40 going into the fourth quarter. The Bombers managed to outscore the Celtics in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime. The Bombers scored just 7 points in OT but the Celtics could only muster 5 as the Celtics dropped their fifth game in a row 64-62 in overtime at St. Louis Arena.
Clara Bow hates losing in overtime

Jackass of the Night is Johnny Simmons. He shot 4 for 18 in a game decided by two points. 14 missed shots is not good.

Final Thoughts:

Celtics coach John Russell must be ready to run back to Brooklyn at this point. They simply can't find a way to win no matter the situation. As a unit they missed 48 shots and bricked 12 free throws in a game decided by two points in overtime. Not that the Bombers were much better, but John Logan and Don Putnam outscore Wyndol Gray and Red Wallace, its not your night. If you're Russell, what do you do? Not sure there's anyone around the league that can be realistically traded for that could help. Just going to have to go with what they got the rest of the season I'm afraid. The Celtics now come home in search of their first win when they play the Huskies this Saturday night. The game begins at 7:00 PM at the Boston Garden.
